If your bet is on a win; the Bulls must win by 5 points, if it is on a loss, anything below 4 points will still win your bet, and this is why it is called a "spread".
A Moneyline bet on basketball is the same as a straight-up bet, this is also quite a popular wager. Essentially the bet is on who will win the game plain and simple. Again we use the Bulls and the Nicks as examples - if the Bulls are -165 on the Moneyline this means you would have to wager $1.65 to win $1. Bookmakers are offering +145 for the New York Nicks in this game to win, which makes them the underdog or the long shot if you like. If the Nicks win and your bet comes in it means you have won $1.45 for a wager of $1, or multiples thereof.
Over/Under Betting is also a popular bet on basketball and is sort of like a spread in that a set amount of points is used to establish the odds - these are generally fixed odds wagers. The punter takes this bet on basketball by either wagering under or over the specified amount of points - but this time in terms of a combined score for both teams.
